Gentle, adjustable support around the rib cage

A rib belt (also called a rib binder or chest support belt) wraps around the lower chest to give light, even compression to the rib cage. Doctors sometimes recommend one for rib or chest wall injuries, muscle strain, or after chest and upper-abdominal surgery, to help the area feel supported while you breathe, cough and move.

The VIBFIT Rib Belt has a wide elastic body, breathable mesh panels and a large velcro front closure, so you can set the support level yourself and adjust it during the day.

Important: snug, not tight

Don't wrap a rib belt so tight that you can't take a full, deep breath. Doctors often advise against tight chest binding for a broken or cracked rib, because shallow breathing can raise the risk of a chest infection. Use a rib belt only if your doctor recommends it, keep it snug rather than tight, and keep up any breathing exercises you've been given.

Who it's for
  • People recovering from a rib or chest wall injury when their doctor has advised a rib belt
  • People with a chest or rib muscle strain who want support during movement
  • Patients after chest or upper-abdominal surgery, if the surgeon recommends a binder
Size guide

Measure around your chest or ribs at the level where the belt will sit, keeping the tape snug but not tight.

  • Sizes available: S, M, L, XL, XXL
  • M fits about 80–100 cm chest or rib circumference

  1. Measure: check your chest or rib measurement at the level where the belt will sit.
  2. Position it: wrap the belt around your lower chest so it covers the sore area, with the closure at the front.
  3. Fasten it: breathe out gently and press the velcro closed so the belt feels snug.
  4. Check your breathing: take a full, deep breath. If you can't, loosen the belt. It should support, not restrict.

Care: Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and dry flat in the shade. Don't iron, bleach or tumble dry.

What is a rib belt used for?

A rib belt is a wide elastic belt worn around the lower chest. It gives gentle compression to the rib cage so the area feels supported while you breathe, cough and move. Doctors sometimes recommend one after a rib or chest wall injury, a muscle strain, or chest or upper-abdominal surgery.

Should I wear a rib belt for a broken or cracked rib?

Only if your doctor recommends it. Many doctors advise against tight chest wraps for rib fractures because they can stop you breathing deeply, which raises the risk of a chest infection. If you've been told to use a rib belt, keep it snug, not tight, and keep doing any breathing exercises you were given.

How tight should a rib belt be?

Snug enough to feel supportive, loose enough that you can take a full, deep breath without effort. If breathing feels restricted, loosen it.

What size is the VIBFIT Rib Belt?

It comes in S, M, L, XL and XXL. Measure around your chest or ribs at the level where the belt will sit: size M fits about 80–100 cm. If you're unsure which size fits, contact our team with your measurement before ordering.

Can men and women both use it?

Yes. The rib belt is unisex. Choose by your chest or rib measurement.

Can I sleep wearing a rib belt?

Only if your doctor tells you to. Most people take it off when lying down to rest.

Can I wear it under clothes?

Yes. Many people wear it over a thin cotton vest or T-shirt for comfort, with their regular clothes on top.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and dry flat in the shade. Don't iron, bleach or tumble dry.
